Ya, you read it correctly, the proper definition of a Laptop has come a long way & it's incomplete now to consider them just a Laptop anymore.

Portable computer Form-Factors:-


Laptop (in general): A device that serves either as a Desktop replacement or a portable Gaming rig.

• Characteristics: Large screen, full QWERTY keyboard

Netbook: A light-weight device mainly meant for internet on the go.

• Characteristics:Small size, light-weight, long battery life

Notebook: A sleek device, but bulkier than a netbook, used for documents & presentations.

• Characteristics: Sleek, large screen, full QWERTY keyboard

Smartbook: A hybrid between a notebook & a smartphone, with power-packed features.

• Characteristics: More connectivity options, ,light-weight, long battery life

Tablet: A full-touch digital slate with no keyboard.

• Characteristics: Large touchscreen, small size

UMPC: It stands for Ultra Mobile PC, which is basically a tablet with a sliding keyboard, speakers & other peripherals.

• Characteristics: Lack of folding screen, like other laptops, low processing power, short battery life.
